Southwell Minster

What a FANTASTIC day we had yesterday, when we went to Southwell Minster!

We went into the Minister for the opening service.

This was led by Bishop Tony, who sang to us.

There were lots of schools there.

The teacher and 2 children went up to the front to receive a pilgrim candle.

We divided into 2 groups to do lots of super activities.

We looked at the different shapes of the arches and windows with Grumpy. 

We did some acting.

We learnt about the Lord's Prayer.

Unfortunately we had to have lunch inside as the grass was too wet.

What a beautiful place!

All Around Us Week

What a fantastic week we've had in Class 1!

We've been looking at the history of our Marston Thorold's Charity School and thinking of our Tercentenary coming up in July.

We've been writing about the Victorian part of the school being built in 1716.

There was no central heating of course, just fires.

The 2 fireplaces in the 2 original classrooms are blocked in now.

The new build was added on in 2004.

Class 1 was part of this.

The new Reception Room was converted from a cloakroom in 2016.

We had two members of staff who were pupils at this school to tell us all about their schooling. The Good Old Days! Time to sew, garden, build sheds.So interesting!

The whole school has been working with a textile artist to make a new banner for the school.

Class 1 also went to St. Mary's Church to look at the war memorial, the links with the Thorold family and do some painting and sketching.

Food, Glorious Food!

Class 1's Topic in Term 5 is Food.

We've been writing poems about food for the special poetry book, that Mrs. Chesterton is putting together for the School's Tercentary.

Mrs. Chesterton came in to visit YR on Wednesday, as she is Foundation Governor. The Reception children asked her if she was the Queen!

We've been making fruit and vegetable pictures in Art, by printing and using seeds, lentils and rice.

We've been having picnics

and buying food in the local shop.

It's good value for money!
